Sometimes insecurity becomes a source of inspiration. And, when it does, the grandeur and glamour speaks for itself to the world. It flows unabated through and through.
This can be said of Jackie Mgido who, growing up was highly uncomfortable and having a sure sense of insecurity about herself. Due to this, Mgido ventured into make-up.

Jackie Mgido uses make-up to disguise originality.
Her desire was to be recognised and be well noticed. The discomfort was not because she was dark skinned as most people do but because she wanted recognition or simply put, who she is.
The saying “Where there is a will there is a way” became reality as she realised she could take make-up with passion in Zimbabwe and beyond and has been doing so, educating young women for free, while opening up shops in other countries such as Kenya.
Mgido travels to and fro the home of actors in Hollywood to do what she knows best (apply make-up) to some renowned artistes but still makes it a point to return to her place of birth — Zimbabwe.
She has done mighty exploits in Hollywood with her tactics on Sylvester Stallone, Snoop Dogg among many others with least recognition back home.
Mgido is currently in her homeland to do justice to her nation hopefully with some recognition among those in the arts industry who happen to be the force behind her passion.
Recently, she left people dumbfounded by transforming our very own Jah Prayzah.
This is what she revealed: “Jah Prayzah has always been talented and super intelligent. We travelled on the same flight recently after performing in the UK and he asked why make-up has nothing to do with men. I had the joy of sharing with him that make-up was not just for women but for men too.
“I shared with him how make-up can be used with special effects to transform people and this excited him.
“I discovered that we both have this gift of giving. Giving doesn’t make the receiver as happy as it makes you (the giver) feel good. When I apply make-up I get a sense of gratification from doing so in my inner part. It makes me happier and satisfied.”
“The make-up that I performed on Jah Prayzah is going to place Zimbabwe on a completely different level in the arts industry, I can assure you I am determined to do so.
“It is going to force other African countries to be on our level if we rush enough to do the right movies at the right time and get sponsorship from the cooperate world.”
Seasoned musician Mukudzei Mukombe a.k.a Jah Prayzah recently went into a shop with a “bloody” face and was unrecognisable as a result of the kind of make-up techniques.

On another occasion he managed to pull some pranks on people including Madam Boss and MudiwaHood.
Mgido revealed more: “I applied some make-up which disguised him completely bearing some blood marks. We did not stop there but added a ‘bold cap’, with the intention to transform him. A lot of people failed to recognise him while others seemed frightened from the ‘blood face.’”
Mgido thrilled: “He pranked Madam Boss to the verge that she was getting agitated because she couldn’t recognise him such that he ended up exposing himself. Mudiwa, on the other hand thought he was a relative of Jah Prayzah until Jah Prayzah laughed and Mudiwa caught onto the voice.”
All this is evidence that make-up is capable of transforming people if well applied.
Mgido went further on why the cooperate world should come on board stating that this could be an advantage for their marketing strategies. She mentioned Road Angles as the first to use some artiste in disguise to which she transformed Jah Prayzah to their liking.
“I got a phone call from Jah having been approached by Road Angels and he needed some transformation. Jah said, ‘Let’s bring Hollywood to Zimbabwe,’ and the look I gave him was inspired by the Nutty Professor.”
“It literally took me two hours to have the make-up done and that prosthetic he had on for the neck and cheeks was specifically made for him,” she emphasised.
In response to these transformation Jah Prayzah disclosed: “The second video for Road Angels electrified the people more because this time we had actually planned for it unlike the first because it was more of an experiment. It however, made sense because a lot of people still were fascinated by it.”
The “Goto” hit maker is confident that make-up will surely become a game changer for the Zimbabwean artistes having experienced it all.
“I believe Jackie’s make-up procedures might change the Zimbabwe film and music industry in a different way altogether. It’s going to be a game changer. This will give people a better understanding of the role that make-up plays and I think that’s the angle Jackie is bringing us”.
This is sure evidence that most of the Zimbabwean artistes simply get the normal make-up unlike what Mgido is doing having attended to international artistes in the likes of Stallone and Snoop Dogg. It takes knowledge and ability to be able to attend to such high level performers.
Jah Prayzah went on to thank Mgido for what she is doing in our nation.
“The best part that Jackie is doing is that she is also coaching young women on how to apply these skills and they can end up having some form of livelihood as individuals,” he believed.
Jah Payzah has grasped the idea, hopefully, this will spread to the modelling, film and music industry and transform Zimbabwean artistes to international levels. However, local makeup fanatic Amelia Deya said she was chuffed with Mgido’s creativity.
“In witnessing Jackie Mgido’s transformative artistry on Jah Prayzah, it was a poignant realisation of how often brilliance remains unnoticed.
“The nuanced mastery in the makeup revealed a depth of creativity that seemed to elude the casual observer, prompting reflection on the profound intricacies overlooked in the tapestry of artistic expression,” she added.
