Body-builder Godwin Mhaka is locked in and laser-focused on clinching gold at the upcoming Universe Powerlifting Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 12 to 14.
The elite event will feature over 200 athletes from 50 nations, but Mhaka, fresh off past victories is determined to dominate.
“Preparations are intense,” said Mhaka.
“Injuries happen, but I’m pushing through. By September, I’ll be ready to smash my personal best.”
This marks his second international powerlifting showdown, following his debut in Dubai.
“I’ve learned from my mistakes and leveled up. This time, I’m bringing home more gold,” said Mhaka.
Yet, the road to glory is not without hurdles. Mhaka has issued a rallying cry for sponsors, citing the financial strain of elite competition.
“Sponsorship remains a major challenge,” he said.
“I am grateful to Musabvunda Apparel and Total Fitness Zimbabwe for their support, but I need more partners to fuel this mission and hoist Zimbabwe’s flag higher.”
With a trophy cabinet boasting titles like Mr. Ironman Zimbabwe, Mr Zimbabwe, Mr Ironman Botswana, and the 2017 Mr Pretoria Classics, Mhaka is no stranger to victory.
He also seized gold in the World Fitness Federation’s Mr. Universe Bermuda Beach Model category in Las Vegas, US.
