organisation, takes over from outgoing leader Mr Winston Chitando.
Speaking from the Eastern Highlands yesterday, Mr Chitando said the winners would assume their new positions during the course of the chamber’s annual general meeting.
“Mr Mhembere is the incoming president and is deputised by Mr Allan Mashingaidze from Metalon Gold.
“The second vice president is Mr Toindepi Muganyi of Freda Rebecca Mine. The official announcement will be made here tomorrow,” he said.
Apart from leadership change, CMZ annual general meetings discuss various matters affecting the mining industry in the country.
Sources say under the leadership of Mr Mhembere, the organisation was likely to be at loggerheads with Government as his company Zimplats was resisting the takeover of some of its idle land infested with platinum ore and give it to the other investors.
The platinum mining giant has so far lodged an objection against the Government’s takeover of 27 948 hectares of unused land which is part of vast swathes of mining claims it has.
Last month, the Government repossessed 27 948 hectares of Zimplats ground for allocation to other companies.
