DIVINE Mhindirira knows the race for the top four in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is tough.
But he wishes to see Highlanders, who are sixth on the log standings, making it into the top three.
The 21-year old midfielder is one of the reasons why the Bulawayo giants have performed decently in the league this season.
Mhindirira scored the equalising goal for his team before Lynoth Chikuhwa found the winner when Bosso beat CAPS United 2-1 at Barbourfields on Sunday.
The result took Bosso’s points tally to 38, just one behind fourth-placed Manica Diamonds and seven behind third-placed Chicken Inn.
It was the second goal of the season for the man who is one of the top assist providers in the whole league.
Mhindirira has notched nine assists this season and he believes if his teammates can carry the indomitable spirit into the last nine matches of the season, Bosso can stand a huge chance of finishing the season in the top three.
The former Hwange and Bulawayo City player said Bosso are a big brand and they should be fighting for the top accolades every season.
“I should say that I am excited to be playing for such a huge and inspirational club of the stature of Highlanders. This is a club with a rich football history and legacy. This is a model team which aspiring players also want to play for and for me, I should say, I am living my dream,” said Mhindirira.
“And as players who don the famous black and white stripes, I think we have a huge responsibility to represent this club with all the honour it deserves. The Highlanders badge is more than just a simple badge. It is a big footballing institution and we ought to fight tooth and nail to protect that brand.
“Look at the race that we are in, if we do not put in the work, we may fail to even finish in the top 10, given the competition in this marathon.
“But, we are always encouraging each other, as a team, we need to work harder than we have done. The final phase that we have just entered demands industry and tact. We need to push hard, be smart and grind the results.
“Given the competition in this phase of the race, I think, if we work hard, we can actually nail a top-three place in the league,” Mhindirira said.
The Chitungwiza-born player said he wants to leave his own legacy at the Bulawayo side.
His basic hold and release play has endeared him with the Bosso faithful.
“I don’t seek to emulate or copy any club legend. I am trying to establish myself by stamping my own identity.
“We should be united and l would like to see us compete strongly with the teams above us. As Highlanders, we should be in a position to always challenge for the league title and I believe the major challenge for the team is to cover the gap between the log leaders and us, we should be bold in our play and no one has to explain what is needed to do.”
Meanwhile, Chikuhwa has extended his stay with Bosso to 2024.
The club confirmed the development on their social media platforms yesterday.
