Mhondoro-Ngezi engages in massive projects

Mhondoro-Ngezi Rural District Council has embarked on life-transforming projects, including increasing piped water access to health institutions and schools in the area. The local authority, which is one of the first councils in Mashonaland West Province to meet its 100-day targets under the new dispensation, remains on course to ensure improved infrastructural development in the area.

Villages adjacent to the institutions with newly installed piped water will also be able to access the facilities to reduce an occurrence of water-borne diseases.

Chief executive Mr Itai Mawonde said the projects were on course and would soon be commissioned.

“We recently managed to refurbish a block at Manyewe Clinic and the roofing is now in place,” he said.

“Apart from renovating and painting the block, we also managed to improve water reticulation systems as well.

“Council installed a submersible pump with piped water being now accessible at nurses’ quotas and the clinic.

“We have connected piped water to a business centre and the school near Gweshe Clinic in Ward 16.”

Gweshe Clinic was constructed this year during the new administration’s first 100-day target at a cost of $55 000.

Mr Mawonde said council was on the verge of completing the construction of Turf Primary School.

“Final touches are being done on the first block, while the second one is being roofed.

“The toilet is at roof level, with water facilities already installed,” he said.

Mr Mawonde said council had also managed to install water facilities at its office at the cemetery.
