MICasa refutes marriage claims

As the object of many a womanas desire on the African continent, the marital status of MiCasa heartthrob JaSomething has been subject to much speculation, as fans wonder if the velvety voiced singer is taken or not.

Last year the collective hearts of women around the continent seemed to have been simultaneously broken when rumours started circulating that the suave vocalist had traded wedding vows with his sweetheart of four years, Cordelia a?Cocoa? Godi.

Although he himself denied the rumours, South African tabloids were awash with news and pictures of the union between the two, with their matrimony seemingly solidified by a traditional wedding after the multilingual JaSomething paid lobola.

However, JaSomething has always been evasive or in outright denial of the rumour. When asked about his marriage status during a visit to the City of Kings he refused to answer in a straight forward manner, only pointing out to the fact that he did not have a ring.

a?The one way that I balance my private life and my work life is that I donat speak about my private life because I feel I already give so much in my music life. So the answer to your question is yes and no. Who knows? Everybody thinks Iam married. I donat have a ring but everybody thinks Iam married. There are pictures out there apparently of my wedding,a? he said.

While many young artistes are usually in reverence of Zimbabwean music great Oliver Mtukudzi, JaSomething narrated a story of how Tuku had himself been star-struck when he saw the group perform at a jazz festival in Zambia.

a?He is an idol and we shared the stage with him in Zambia where we did a jazz festival and he came to us. He came and he said a?hey man, you killed it out therea?. So that was definitely the highlight of my career. It was a great privilege to meet him first of all because I feel like he is someone who we should be proud of as Africans. It would be great to work with him and he shared the desire to do so as well,a? he said.

The singer also took the opportunity to point out that although his father, who passed away a few months ago, was mostly absent from his life when he was growing up, he did not bear any grudges against him.

a?My mother predominantly played the role of father and mother in my life even though my father was always there.

He was always a great man. He struggled with his things like all men do. One thing I knew is that even though he wasnat always the best dad he always loved me. Which was enough,a? he said.

The singer also confirmed that the group had since left Soul Candi, the label that had plucked them from obscurity to international fame.

a?Soul Candi was the label who we started with. They gave us the opportunity to start our careers which was a big task. After three years we decided to try something else. Theyare still part of our team but we are not technically part of their team. So we are no longer part of Soul Candi Records anymore,a? he said.

A confessed workaholic, JaSomething said that there were hardly any off days or leisure time for him while he was on his grind as an artiste.

a?I just donat do music only. I also play in the Food Space and I have my own Cookbook. I also have two TV shows and I create TV formats. I also write. I am just a creative person,a? he said.
