MICHAEL J Fox will take the Parkinson’s disease he was diagnosed with in 1991 and deal with it head-on and with humour on his new show. The 52-year-old actor portrays New York news anchor and family man Mike Henry who quits his high-profile job after being diagnosed with the degenerative disease. “I have challenges that come with Parkinson’s but my experience is to deal with things through humour,” Fox said in a new preview of NBC’s The Michael J. Fox Show released on Tuesday.
Fox’s character eventually decides to go back to work, much in the same way the real-life actor has returned to television, but Henry in a clip from the show reveals he wants a low-key return.
“We both know if I come back, NBC is going to milk it by showing me in slow-motion with lame uplifting music in the background,” his character said just as a promo announcing Henry’s return showed him in slow-motion with uplifting music.
The promo video also featured clips showing some of the day-to-day challenges of living with Parkinson’s disease.
The character is showing speaking inadvertently to a 911 emergency dispatcher.
“I didn’t call 9-1-1, I called 9-1-7,” his characters said right before a group of New York Police Department officers barge in with their guns drawn.
In another clip, Henry is at the table with his family trying to dish out some eggs from a large serving spoon.
“Can you not have a personal victory right now, we are starving,” said Annie, the actor’s on-screen wife portrayed by Betsy Brandt.
Fox endeared himself to fans with his portrayal of Alex P Keaton on the 1980s NBC sitcom Family Ties.
He also enjoyed film success with the Back to the Future trilogy and the sitcom Spin City.
The Michael J. Fox show also stars Jack Gore, Juliette Goglia and Conor Romero as Henry’s children.
The show will premiere on 26 September on NBC.-Dailymail.
