Reynier Mena of Cuba, who ran 10.43s, and Youxue Mo of China (10.44s) also qualified from heat one where pre-race favorite Micheal O’hara of Jamaica gate crashed into the finals with the next fastest time of 10.47s.
Mario Burke of Barbados (10.49s), Victor Hugo Dos Santos of Brazil and Wessem Williams of Jamaica complete the eight finalists for the boys 100m from the other semi-final.
But Songore will today fight for a place in 200m heats along compatriot Sean Banda.
The two boys will also join Daniel Chidavaenzi and Tatenda Matesanwa in the medley relay while on Wednesday, Yvonne Vanhuvaona failed to progress beyond the heats in the girls’ 400m.
Vanhuvaone, running in heat seven, finished fifth in 57.07s which was outside her personal best of 56.47s run on May 3 in Harare.
Today, Ruvarashe Muzinde will take part in the girls’ 200m in the second heat.
