A birdie on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off saw Michael Wallace edge out Kelvin Muchenje to win the 2025 Mzilikazi Classic Golf Tournament at Bulawayo Country Club on Sunday.
The two Zimbabwe national squad players had finished tied on level-par 216 after 54 holes of regulation play, forcing a play-off on the par-four 18th hole. This was the third edition of the Mzilikazi Classic, which attracted an improved field of 79 golfers.
Wallace’s victory came just days after he had put in a solid showing at the Blue Label Bushveld Tour Srixon Series #4 at Benoni Country Club in South Africa, where he finished tied for 11th.
At the Mzilikazi Classic, Muchenje had taken command after the first two rounds. He opened with a two-under-par 70 before following it up with a three-under-par 69 to head into the final day at five-under, holding a three-stroke lead over Wallace.
Wallace had started slowly with a three-over-par 75, but bounced back with a brilliant five-under-par 67 – the best round of the tournament.
In the final round, Muchenje faltered, carding a five-over-par 77, while Wallace returned a 74 to force the play-off.
Darlington Chikanyambidze finished third on four-over-par 220 with rounds of 79, 73 and 68.
