Mid-year bonus for pensioners

Government has extended a mid-year bonus to National Social Security Authority (NSSA) pensioners to cushion them from the rise in the cost of living.

In a statement to The Herald yesterday, NSSA said the discretionary bonus will be paid this month.

The lowest paid pensioner gets $80 per month, implying that they will take home $160.

Said NSSA: “The Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Honourable Dr Sekai Nzenza, has made a decision to award a once off discretionary bonus equivalent to a month’s pension to cushion NSSA pensioners from the general increase in the cost of living. “

NSSA said the actuarial valuation will guide it in determining the level of benefits reviews.
