ZANU-PF Midlands Province endorsed President Mnangagwa as the party’s sole candidate for 2023 presidential elections as part of its resolutions for the National People’s Conference.

The resolutions were read by Zanu-PF Midlands Provincial chairperson Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube during a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting held on Sunday at the Zanu-PF Convention Centre in Gweru.

Eng Ncube said the party had resolved to endorse President Mnangagwa as the presidential candidate in the 2023 harmonised elections.

This follows resolutions by the Youth and Women’s Leagues to endorse President Mnangagwa for 2023.

Eng Ncube said the decision was unanimous in the province.

“As a province we have resolved to endorse President Mnangagwa as the party’s candidate for 2023.

“The main wing, Women’s League and the Youth League in the province have also endorsed President Mnangagwa.

“We moved a motion during our Provincial Executive meeting. We have also prepared our provincial report that will be presented to the First Secretary,” he said.

Eng Ncube said the province also subscribes to the idea of having an independent electoral board to preside over party elections to ensure transparency and credibility.

“As a province we said we also want an independent electoral board to preside over party elections. We have also resolved to lobby the party to put in place deterrent measures against perpetrators of corruption,” he said.

Eng Ncube said the province had moved its provincial inter-district conference to Thursday from Saturday last week.

Midlands will be sending 800 delegates to the revolutionary party’s Annual National People’s Conference to be held in Esigodini.

Eng Ncube said the province had raised $50 000 and eight cattle towards the conference.
