THE Zanu-PF national commissariat has dissolved the Midlands provincial executive following irregularities that punctuated the elections as well as failure to comply with the party directive to allow all members who were elected into the provincial basket to participate in the provincial elections.
A letter written by national political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu, advised all elected members that authority vested in provincial chairman, Cde Jason Machaya, chairperson of the women’s league, Cde Ellina Shirichena and youth league chairperson, Cde Edmore Samambwa.
Cde Shamu said the Politburo would convene a meeting to deliberate the outstanding issues pertaining to the Midlands provincial elections.
“Following reports of disputes over the composition of the main wing, youth and women’s league executive committee office bearers you are hereby directed to repose all authority in the administration of the party in the Midlands province in the hands of the provincial chairman, Cde Jason Machaya, chairperson of the women’s league, Cde Ellina Shirichena and youth league chairperson, Cde Edmore Samambwa.
“The above mentioned triumvirate will remain so until the Politburo meets to discuss the report on the Midlands elections and make its determination,” reads part of the letter.
The commissariat reached this decision after war veterans and other members of the party in the Midlands province petitioned Cde Shamu on Thursday after tempers flared during a provincial meeting in Gweru where the provincial leadership was supposed deliberate on outstanding issues pertaining to the elections.
The meeting was abandoned after tempers boiled over into public spats when provincial members disagreed on the way forward following the commissariat’s directive.
Zanu-PF national spokesperson, Cde Rugare Gumbo confirmed that some members of the party from the Midlands province petitioned the commissariat over the matter.
“A group of party members from the Midlands province met the commissariat over the outstanding issues on the provincial executive elections. The members came and expressed their concerns regarding the matter. The elections were not constitutional and some members did not abide by the party rules and regulations.
‘’There was lack of compliance among other members of the party. I also issued a statement on the Sunday meeting as the national spokesperson but some people failed to realise that I speak on behalf of the party at national level,” he said.
