All teams in Rhinos’ A and B League will receive cricket kits and transport to fulfil the league’s fixtures.
Midwest Rhinos area manager, Admire Marodza confirmed the latest developments but could not shed light on the actual value of the sponsorship package.
“As Midwest Rhinos we are pleased to announce that our domestic league received a major boost from Lays as they have committed to sponsor all the teams that play in our first league with T-shirts, hats and they are also taking care of all the clubs’ transport costs for all league matches in both A and B leagues.
“At the moment we are not in a position to disclose the full amount (sponsorship) but all the same this is great development for the development of the sport in the franchise,” Marodza said.
The domestic league is used by the Midlands and Mashonaland West franchise as a development league meant to nurture talent to feed it to the senior side.
Some of the players to emerge from the developmental structures and are in the Rhinos first team include Michael Chinouya, Remembrance Nyathi and the Kadoma Sports Club quartet of Ed Rainsford, Neville Madziva, Nyasha Mayavo and Richard Muzhange who was named the Rookie of the Year at the Zimbabwe Cricket awards held recently.
Fifteen-year-old, Josephine Nkomo who also came from Rhinos’ developmental structures was also voted the Female Cricketer of the Year at the same awards ceremony.
