Midwest Rhinos ropes in four players

KWEKWE based cricket franchise outfit, Midwest Rhinos have beefed up their side with four new players ahead of the new cricket season which roars to life on Monday. Rhinos swooped on to the pair of medium- fast pace bowler Tinashe Panyangara and Tafadzwa Kamungozi from the now-defunct Southern Rocks.

The Midlands based franchise side also managed to secure the signatures of Britain based Zimbabwe-born bowler, Ryan Beuzgnaut and Englishman Braid Wadlan, an all-rounder.

The pair have been playing club cricket in the United Kingdom.

Midwest Rhinos area manager, Admire Marodza expressed confidence that the quartet will make a huge impact and see the Midlands and Mashonaland West franchise side capturing their first piece of silverware since the inception of the franchise league in 2010.

“As Midwest Rhinos we are happy to announce that we have enlisted the services of Tafadzwa Kamungozi , Tinashe Panyangara, Ryan Beuzgnaut and Brad Wadlan whose experience will come in handy as we mount a serious challenge for silverware this season.

“We are hopeful that the new players will blend well with the rest of the team which has in its ranks some senior national team players,” he said.

Rhinos have some key national team players among them national team skipper, Brandan Taylor, top order batsman Vusi Sibanda and Malcolm Waller.

Richard Muzhange, Simon Mgava, Edward Rainsford and RikkI Wessels are some of the fringe players who have made a difference in the side.

Rhinos who recently appointed national team assistant coach Douglas Hondo will begin their campaign on Monday against Mashonaland Eagles at Harare Sports Club without their coach as well as three national team players who are on tour in Bangladesh.

Rhinos assistant coach, Abel Chisvo will fill in Hondo’s shoes while some fringe players will also get a chance to shine in the absence of the established stars.

Rhinos clash with Eagles on Monday in an 50 overs match before facing the same opponents on Wednesday for a four day test match.
