Mighty Bulls win against Mambas

MOTOR Action finally remembered how to win when they got their second victory this season yesterday after outplaying the police side in a Castle Lager Premiership soccer match at Motor Action Sports Club.

The Mighty Bulls had only picked maximum points against Highlanders at Barbourfields but found their winning ways again yesterday when they made light work of Black Mambas who “bite the dust” for the third time in a row.

Former Soccer Star of the Year Clemence Matawu, who is back at the club which gave him fame after an unfruitful stint in Poland, found the opener barely two minutes into the game when his shot somehow took a bounce to mislead Mambas goalie Tonderai Mateyaunga and went into the nets.

But the hosts got the insurance goal in the 69th minute when Misheck Mburayi, on the right, made a solo run and  drilled home a goal which was closely contested for an off-side, after he was set up by substitute Passmore Bernard.

Referee Robert Mugorosi awarded the goal amid calls for an off-side by the opposition.
Black Mambas coach John “Toto” Ncube admitted that his team is going through a bad spell.
“This is now our third defeat in a row and it’s not good for the team. It is just a bad spell for us but we have to bounce back.

“The match was okay, we played well but unfortunately we conceded two goals of which the first one we cannot  blame the goalkeeper as it took an awkward bounce but the second goal was scored from an offside position and we feel it should have been disallowed,” said Ncube.

Motor Action assistant coach David George, who is holding fort in the absence of head coach Joey “Mafero” Antipas who is in Europe for a one-month attachment with Danish and German clubs, said it was a good day in the office.

“It was a good day in the office for us and at last we got a win. We have to win another game and move some places up the log table,” said George.

The match which was a rather dull affair saw Mambas missing three clear chances in the last five minutes of the first period as they sought for an equaliser. Mambas striker Kasimero Chidzambwa blasted wide after he found himself in front of goal  as Mighty Bulls goalkeeper Marlon Jani was lying down following a collision with his defender while trying to clear his lines. In the 45th minute, the veteran Motor Action goalie was again forced to block an effort by Benjamin Chirimanzi after a good move by the visitors. And deep in the optional time, Warumwa Warumwa defender Patrick Muswere’s long-range had to be parried out by Jani.

In the second period there was little action from both sides but the Mighty Bulls thwarted the few attacks that came their way to go home smiling.
