Mighty Warriors face Banyana Banyana in friendly

Both teams will use the friendly match to prepare for their crucial African Women’s Championships at the end of this month.

Zimbabwe will take on World Cup losing finalists and African  powerhouse Nigeria while South Africa have a date with Zambia, who lost 3-1 to Zimbabwe in a friendly international at Hwange Colliery Stadium this past Saturday.

“The last time Banyana played against Zimbabwe, they were beaten 3-0, so they are anticipating another tough match from their neighbours,” Safa director of communications Dominic Chimhavi told the South African media.

“We hope the match will prepare the team for the first leg of the African Women’s Championships qualifier against Zambia on 26 May.

“The return leg will be played in July, Banyana will represent South Africa at the 2012 Olympic Games in London for the first time,” said Chimhavi.

In the Zambia friendly match the Mighty Warriors had to come from behind after Zambia’s Esta Banda had shot the visitors into the lead 15 minutes into the game.

Zimbabwe then levelled affairs in the 46th minute thanks to a penalty conversion by Tsitsi Mariosi.
Zimbabwe made it 2-1 in the 56th minute after a Rutendo Makore strike before the Mighty Warriors completed their rout with an 83rd minute goal from Mairosi.
