Mike Madhodha takes Chapman Grand Clam

Coming as an unheralded player, Madhodha was a surprise contender as he managed to match the top amateurs to lift his first major championship of his career.

The Zvishavane-based golfer kept his nerve and outclassed several top amateurs who took part in the event.
Madhodha, playing off at two handicap, carded 80, 75 and 75 to win the tournament on a 230 gross score.

Madhodha was happy with his performance and reckoned that this could be the beginning of a new chapter in his career.
“I think this marks the beginning of a new chapter in my golfing career and winning this tournament means a lot to me.
“I think it was high time that I won something big and this is the time I had been waiting for,” Madhodha said.

Pre-tournament favourite Clive Nguru came second.
The golfer could not utilise home advantage and was three shots off the winner Madhodha.
Nguru sank 79, 73 and 81 for a gross score of 233.

Playing off a zero handicap Nguru was edged by Madhodha in the last round when he scored a nine over par 81. Julius Kamalizeni did himself justice by carding 75, 79 and 79 to tie with Nguru on 233.
Ray Badenhoist, Kyle Basson , Kembo Kampira and Nicolas Masunga were in fourth place after they all carded 234 gross.
The tournament also saw Barry Painting, who plays off one handicap, carding 83, 73 and 79.

The Chapman Grand Slam also saw the hosts’ A team made up of Emanuel Hungwe, Nguru, Kampira and Bernard Magaso winning the team event.
The Chapman A team got a serious challenge from Royal A who managed a 707 gross score.
Royal Team A was made up of Basson, Rowlings, Badenhoist and Cain Mandhu.
