Two learners, Tavonga Musariri and Nokutenda Ndemera of Milestone College, have raised the country’s flag high after their Autonomous Mars Rover project came third at the Chinese International Science Fair in Taipei City.
Their model was among 403 other projects by participants from 44 countries at the science fair, which ran from February 2 to 6.
Tavonga and Nokutenda, who returned home on Sunday from China are Advanced and Ordinary Level learners, respectively, at Milestone College.
The emerging scientists expressed pride in their project and the level of appreciation they got from the judges and other participants.
Their project was an Autonomous Mars Rover for Real – Time Geological, Chemical and Atmospheric Exploration.
Mr Muderere, a school representative with the team, said the learners managed to overcome obstacles to emerge among the winners.
“Through determination and teamwork, we managed to perform exceptionally well and secured 3rd place overall among all participating projects,” said Mr Muderere.
“This achievement stands as a strong testament to the quality of our work and our ability to compete on an international platform.”
The team received an award, certificates of recognition, and US$1 600 and was commended for showing leadership, technical aptitude and discipline.
Zimbabwean learners continue to excel in various fields at academic and scientific exhibitions across the world.
