Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Frederick Shava has called on the Diasporan community to continue investing in Zimbabwe to promote economic development in the country.

In his opening remarks at the second edition of the Diaspora Investment Conference and Homecoming Event in Masvingo, Minister Shava commended the diasporans for their remittances, which last year stood at US$1,8 billion.

“We are working with the ministry of finance trying to find ways of how we can grow that money in some form of investment,” he said.

The conference is being held in physical and virtual format by about 400 people.

The conference is being held in line with dictates of the National Development Strategy 1 which promotes the role of the Zimbabwe’s Diaspora in the country’s economic development.

“The conference is being held in line with aspirations of NDS1 which calls for enhanced participation of Zimbabwe’s Diaspora in national development initiatives,” said Minister Shava.

Speakers drawn from various ministries, departments and agencies will address the Conference on the investment opportunities available in the country.
