A MAN as body was found in a state of decomposition at Garantiya mine in Hope Fountain.

It was identified as the corpse of one Oscar Ndlovu who went missing about a week earlier.

His wife Karen Mpofu (ABOVE) said the deceased left home on 6 January 2016 to borrow money from a friend, Khulumani Mtshayisa, but did not come back.

a?At around 8pm I decided to follow up but did not find him at Mtshayisaas place,a? said Mpofu.

Seeing that Mpofu was worried, Mtshayisa joined in the search that yielded no results.

a?On the following day I reported the matter to the village head Vusa Gasela who then spoke to Mtshayisa and they agreed to continue the search,a? said Mpofu.

The search party found footprints they believed were Ndlovuas. As such, they kept looking for him.

With faith, they found him but he had passed away. The village head Vusa Gasela confirmed finding the body and informing the police.

a?We found his body on 14 January. It was already decomposed. We left it there as we went to report the matter at the police camp,a? said Gasela.

Gasela alleges that police from the sub-aqua unit feared for the risks associated with the disused mine and so they left promising to return the following day.

But Gasela and company had no patience. They retrieved the body themselves.

a?After they had left, we retrieved the body the following day and the police came back to take the corpse,a? he said.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the incident.

a?I can confirm that I received a report of a man who was found dead in a disused mine in Hope Fountain and investigations are in progress,a? said Insp Simango.
