The Government has commended local small-scale and artisanal miners following the establishment of a state-of-the-art orphanage by the Zanu PF-affiliated group Miners4ED in Alabama, Sanyati District.

The facility, which is undergoing minor renovations before its official launch, is set to provide a home to at least 80 orphans, who will receive both academic and vocational training.

Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, along with Zanu PF’s politburo member, Cde Paul Mangwana, toured the facility on Saturday after attending the Miners4ED national chairman’s conference held at the facility, which brought together provincial and national members from all the country’s 10 provinces.

In her address, Minister Chombo celebrated the miners’ involvement in infrastructure development as truly commendable.

“This is admirable, and President Mnangagwa takes pride in his children who give back to the communities they serve,” she said.

“Continue with this excellent work, which is complementing the Government’s efforts, as this signifies that achieving Vision 2030 is within reach.”

Miners4ED provincial leader Cde Moses Mupeyiwa stated that the home would provide refuge for children orphaned due to mine accidents and HIV/AIDS-related deaths.

With a vision to equip children with lifelong skills, the affiliate has sought additional land to initiate income-generating projects that will sustain the home and empower beneficiaries.

Upcoming initiatives include broiler chicken farming, fish farming, horticulture, carpentry, dressmaking, and welding.
