MUTOKO-BASED mining firm Neotrex Trading Mine allegedly lost US$50 000 to a woman, who misrepresented that she was an agent who could purchase equipment abroad on their behalf.

The suspect Chido Madosi was not asked to plead when she appeared in court charged with fraud.

Neotrex was represented by its director Passmore Mapako.

The court heard that in 2023, Madosi misrepresented herself to  Mapako  and his co-director that she was a registered agent who had the capacity to import and supply mining equipment from the Republic of China.

Mapako and his Director who had a mine claim in Mutoko registered under the name Neotrex Mine wanted to import mine equipment to be used at the mine.

They approached Madosi and contracted her to supply the mining equipment that included an Excavator and four rounds from China and paid US$50 000.

Madosi never supplied the equipment and became evasive after receiving the money.

Nothing was recovered.

Nomsa Kangara appeared for the State.
