Zimbabwe’s mining rights repository has grown to more than 60 000 licences, as Government moves to modernise the administration of mining titles through the rollout of the Mining Cadastre Management Information System.
The update was presented by Mines and Mining Development Minister Dr Polite Kambamura during a Cabinet meeting as ministers noted progress on the Mining Cadastral Registration System.
According to the post-Cabinet media briefing, the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development now maintains a repository of over 60 000 licences, covering a wide range of mining rights.
“To date, the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development has a repository of over 60 000 licences, spanning from Blocks of Claims, Special Grants, Mining Leases, Exclusive Prospecting Orders and Sites, among other permits,” the statement said.
“The Mining Cadastre Management Information System will improve competitiveness in the mining industry to attract increased investment through strengthened governance in the administration of mining rights.”
Government said the computerised mining title platform is also designed to eliminate long-standing administrative challenges affecting the sector.
“The computerised mining title platform will address technical challenges experienced, which include disputes from overlapping titles and processing delays,” the statement said.
The system forms part of Government’s broader efforts to modernise mining administration, strengthen governance and create a more predictable regulatory environment for investors in one of Zimbabwe’s key economic sectors.
