Minister commissions motorbikes for councillors

A CABINET Minister has commended Marondera and Goromonzi Rural District councils for building the capacity of councillors through acquiring motorbikes for them for easy mobility.

Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe yesterday commissioned the motorbikes for the two local authorities.

Minister Garwe also commissioned the new offices for Marondera Rural District Council.

Construction of the offices started last year and they comprise a new reception area, information office, server room, 60-seater boardroom, the kitchen, ablution facilities, two committee rooms, chief executive officer’s office and 10 other offices.

“This magnificent structure represents the culmination of tireless efforts, innovative design and unwavering commitment. It is actually a milestone achievement. We gather to celebrate not just a physical space, but a hub of activity, collaboration and progress.

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to council, its visionary management, as well as its architects and engineers who designed this infrastructure, not forgetting the skilled workers who brought it to life.

“This building stands as a testament to investments and collaboration. May ingenuity and innovation also come from within it so that progress and excellence can be extended to the Marondera community. We pray that this structure be the launchpad for driving local economic development. Construction of modern and climate-resilient structures need to be preached everywhere.”

On the motorbikes, Minister Garwe challenged the councillors to use the vehicles to advance developmental projects, as well as improving service delivery in their wards.

“Today’s occasion marks yet another major milestone in our efforts to enhance public service delivery and community engagement. These motorbikes will facilitate councillors’ mobility, enabling them to connect with constituents more effectively. They will be able to respond promptly to community needs, and to monitor local projects and initiatives.

“I would like to express my gratitude to management and the councillors for commitment to community development tireless efforts in serving our communities.

Councillors promised to work around the clock to ensure quality service delivery as well as increasing visibility in their wards.
