Minister drums up support for Games

THE Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Andrew Langa will meet Bulawayo stakeholders tomorrow morning to drum up support for next year’s Zone Six Games. Bulawayo will play host to the games that will bring together teams from Southern African countries. It is a talent exhibition for future All-Africa and Olympic athletes. Tendai Tagara, the Deputy Director of Sports in the Ministry confirmed the meeting yesterday evening. It will be the first time Minister Langa meets the city’s sports stakeholders who include prospective sponsors and members of various sporting disciplines.

“Basically the Minister would like to drum up support for the Zone Six Youth Games to be hosted by Bulawayo. He wants the community here to support the Games. “The success of the Games depends on the support from all stakeholders,” said Tagara.

Meanwhile, chief executive officers, directors-general and chairpersons of sports councils for Zone Six member countries will meet at a city hotel this morning ahead of the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday. Tagara said they were expecting representatives of all member states to attend. The region’s secretary-general Mvuzo Mbebe is expected to give a review of the region’s performance in the last two years.
