THE Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Professor Mthuli Ncube has donated three tonnes of mealie-meal and an assortment of books to Cowdray Park Primary School as he continues to pursue the promises he made during the run-up to the 2023 general elections.
Although he lost the seat, Prof Ncube, through his Mthuli Ncube Foundation, delivered 700 books and three tons of mealie-meal to the school, bringing hope and tangible support to local learners.
The book donation promises to dramatically enhance the school’s learning resources, providing learners with expanded educational opportunities, while the mealie-meal contribution directly addresses critical nutritional needs, ensuring that children receive essential sustenance during their school day.
Community members expressed overwhelming gratitude for Prof Ncube’s intervention and gesture.
Mrs Sarah Moyo, a parent at the school, said the donation means so much more than just books and food.
“It shows that our leaders care about our children’s future and are committed to supporting education in our community. After all, our children are the hope of the future,” said Mrs Moyo.
The school’s deputy headmistress, Mrs Zanele Haruzivishe, noted the transformative potential of the gift.
“These resources will make a significant difference in our students’ learning environment. The books will broaden their horizons. There was a shortage of books, and already they were struggling with home assignments and studies.
The mealie-meal will help maintain their energy and concentration,” she said.

She said the donation underscores Prof Ncube’s determination to assist the Government’s initiative and commitment to grassroots educational development and community welfare.
The donation event at Cowdray Park Primary School showcases Professor Mthuli Ncube’s dedication to uplifting the educational standards in Zimbabwe and ensuring that learners have access to essential resources to excel in their studies and lead healthy lives.
The initiative highlights the minister’s belief in the transformative power of education and the importance of investing in the youth for a brighter future.
Prof Ncube expressed enthusiasm for supporting the community and empowering young minds through education.
“I am pleased to contribute to the development of Cowdray Park Primary School by providing books and mealie-meal. Education is a fundamental right, and every child deserves the opportunity to learn and thrive. I hope that this donation will make a positive impact on the students and encourage a passion for learning,” said Prof Ncube.
He said the donation of books will enrich the school’s library and academic resources, enabling learners to broaden their knowledge and explore new subjects.
“In addition, the provision of mealie-meal will address the nutritional needs of the students, ensuring that they have access to healthy meals that are essential for their growth and development,” Prof Ncube said.
He also ensured that the school has unlimited WiFi connectivity, as he promised to pay for connectivity for six months.
Prof Ncube also undertook to boost the school’s tech hub by procuring more laptops and equipment.
“I understand that the tech hub only has 15 laptops, compared to the school’s sprawling capacity. I will ensure that more laptops are provided to the school. I am also aware that the school needs more classroom blocks, as well as a meeting hall. All this will be addressed in due time, as we work towards ensuring that our children’s education is prioritised and safeguarded,” he said.
Prof Ncube’s donation to Cowdray Park Primary School reflects his ongoing efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of Zimbabwean youth and contribute to the advancement of education in the country.
