Local Government and Public Works Minister Daniel Garwe yesterday commissioned service delivery equipment worth US$2,9 million bought by Marondera municipality.

The equipment, which comprised of earthmoving, utility, and emergency response vehicles, was commissioned at Rudhaka Stadium in the town.
Minister Garwe commended Marondera municipality for buying the equipment saying it will help to scale up service delivery in the town.
The equipment was bought via a Public-Private Partnership arrangement which was approved by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works who were crucial in analysing and providing technical support while the other equipment was bought using devolution funds and revenue collected by the council.
“I wish to unequivocally assert that the Government desires to see its entities entering into mutually beneficial Public-Private partnership arrangements that drive development forward in tandem with the NDS1 blueprint,” he said.

“On its part, the Government is keen on ensuring the independent socio-economic development of provinces in support of the devolution agenda as espoused in the National Development Strategy One (NDS1) blueprint.

“As such the Government has been disbursing devolution funds whose proceeds were used to procure three fire tenders for Marondera Municipality from Belarus courtesy of the Government-to-Government arrangement facilitated by President Mnangagwa.
“In your case, I am advised devolution funds were used to finance modular tanks and Zimbabwe National Roads Administration (ZINARA) funds were used to fund the road works. “In addition, your council also used internal funds to fund some road works. It is commendable and noteworthy from the onset that to acquire the bulk of the equipment that is displayed here, Council leveraged its internal resources to unlock value.”

The event was attended by the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Dr Apollonia Munzverengwi, senior Government officials based in the province and Marondera municipality officials.
