Conrad Mupesa-Mashonaland West Bureau
LOCAL Government and Public Works Minister, Cde Daniel Garwe, on Friday met councillors and officials of local authorities in Mashonaland West Province in Chinhoyi.
The meeting deliberated on various issues, among them the Call to Action blueprint, service delivery and banning of street and night vending.
Minister Garwe called for the effective implementation of eradicating night and street vending as directed by President Mnangagwa.
He also took the opportunity to warn corrupt councillors and council officials, saying the long arm of the law would catch up with them.
“Corrupt councillors and officials are warned against selling land. In addition, let it be on record to all councils to ensure that night and street vending are banned,” he said.
“We have also seen a rise in drug and substance abuse menace, particularly in towns, as vendors take advantage of the lax system.”
Cde Garwe said Zimbabwe was edging close to attaining Vision 2030 with unity among councillors, despite their political affiliation, going to play a critical role.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Marian Chombo, in a speech read by her secretary, Mr Josphat Jaji, said the province was walking towards achieving Vision 2030 with various developmental projects in line with leaving no one behind.
