Mozambique’s independence day is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a testimony to resilience, unity, and the strength of the human spirit, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Itayi Ndudzo has said.

Adv Ndudzo made the remarks while addressing thousands of people in Tete Province during Mozambique’s 51st independence celebrations. The celebrations were held at De-Cultura Stadium in Tete on June 25, 2026.

Adv Ndudzo, who was leading a high-powered delegation from Mashonaland East province, congratulated the people of Mozambique for the freedom, which they attained after centuries of colonialism from Portugal in 1975.

“It is with great pride and genuine joy that I join you here to celebrate Mozambique’s 51st Independence Anniversary. I wish to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude for the invitation extended to me by Tete Province. I am truly honoured to stand among you at this historic moment,” Minister Ndudzo said.

“President Mnangagwa, of the Republic of Zimbabwe, is very pleased to hear of your celebrations, and has asked me to convey a congratulatory message to all the people of Mozambique, and to the people of Tete Province in particular.

“Your independence is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a testimony to resilience, unity, and the strength of the human spirit.”

Minister Ndudzo highlighted the symbiotic relations between the two countries.

“Allow me also to recognise that the bond between Zimbabwe and Mozambique is deeply rooted in our shared struggle. During our war of liberation, the revolutionary part of FRELIMO supported ZANLA and ZIPRA forces.

“That cooperation was more than assistance; it was brotherhood. It was the kind of solidarity that forges enduring friendships, like a strong bridge built over turbulent waters.”

Going forward, Minister Ndudzo said it is the wish of the people of Zimbabwe that Mozambique remained peaceful and that the nation prosper.

“As Mozambique marks this anniversary, I pray that the future you build will be guided by peace, prosperity, and social progress. May this celebration awaken renewed hope, deepen cooperation between our nations, and strengthen the bonds between our people.

Secretary of State for Tete province Cristina de Jesus Mafumo also emphasised the importance of continuously strengthening ties between Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

“The history of relations between Mozambique and Zimbabwe is a history of solidarity and a common destiny,” he said
