THE Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs, Cde Judith Ncube, has applauded the people of Bulawayo for massively supporting the national clean-up campaign.
President Mnangagwa launched the national clean-up on 5 December last year which has become a monthly event that is held in the first week of every month. On Friday, the country held its ninth clean-up campaign which was led by President Mnangagwa at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre, Mount Pleasant in Harare.
In an interview, Minister Ncube said people in Bulawayo have participated in the clean-up campaign and expressed hope that more people and corporates will endorse the idea.
“We are trying our level best but a person who was born at a home where he never knew how to sweep or pick up a paper is there even in Bulawayo but the policy stands, we need to stay in a clean environment and from the efforts we are making there is a big change,” she said.
Cde Ncube said there was a need to come up with strategies to get everyone involved.
“Now we want to engage residents ward by ward in order for each ward to compete with the next as a way of encouraging or rather promoting cleanliness.
“At first you would find so much litter especially the beer empties but ever since this initiative people have seen the need to do things accordingly.
“People should carry on doing the good work and try by all means to keep our city clean so that the province may be ranked the best when it comes to cleanliness.
“I also want to encourage young children that everyone should live in a clean environment and put litter in bins and if there are no bins people must report so that the council can provide.”
