Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training Minister Tino Machakaire has mourned businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy and three others who died in a helicopter crash in Marondera on Wednesday.
The five were aboard a Bell 430 helicopter travelling from Chikomba to Harare when it crashed, killing all those on board.
In a condolence message, Minister Machakaire said the deaths have left him heartbroken. He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families.
“I write this with a deeply broken heart following the tragic loss of five precious lives aboard the Bell 430 helicopter flight from Chikomba to Harare,” he said.
The Minister said the tragedy has robbed families of their loved ones and described the loss as a painful reminder of the fragility and unpredictability of life.
“It is difficult to find words for a tragedy of this magnitude. They left their loved ones never knowing that it would be their final journey,” he said.
Minister Machakaire expressed condolences to the families of Chivayo, his wife Lucy Chivayo (née Muteke), Senelisiwe Magagula, Captain Kelvin T Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa.
“My heart and deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of Mr Wicknell Chivayo, Mrs Lucy Chivayo (née Muteki), Miss Senelisiwe Magagula, Captain Kelvin T Soda and Captain Courage Mutavirwa,” he said.
He called for strength and comfort for the grieving families as they come to terms with the loss.
“May God hold every grieving family close and give them strength through these darkest hours,” he said.
Minister Machakaire also paid tribute to the victims and said their memories will endure among their families and loved ones.
“May their souls rest in eternal peace and may their memories forever live in the hearts of those who loved them,” he said.
