Minister Made honoured

Presenting the medal on Monday, the visiting FAO director-general, Dr Jose Graziano da Silva, said the award was to honour Minister Made for his work in improving agriculture development, particularly attending to small-scale farmers.
“Minister Made is the first agriculture minister to be given a medal,” he said.

Dr Da Silva expressed gratitude to the Government of Zimbabwe for supporting FAO’s efforts in alleviating poverty and ensuring food security through its programmes.
Minister Made dedicated the medal to President Mugabe whom he said was the key driver of the land reform programme.

“President Mugabe is the key driver of who we are today and what we are going to be tomorrow in relation to how we should serve our people in terms of agriculture and food security,” he said.

Minister Made said Zimbabwe enjoyed immense support from Brazil with emphasis on scientific leadership in the field of agriculture and fighting hunger.
“We are grateful to Brazil. We have been supporting each other and we will remain supporting each other,” he said.

During his visit, Dr da Silva encouraged the decentralisation of services to the farming areas.
He said service providers should always be on the ground, working with farmers than to concentrate on meetings, workshops and seminars in the city.
