Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo has hailed the Chitungwiza Rotary Club for its tremendous contributions in the health sector after it donated medical texts and sun screen lotions worth thousands of dollars to people living with albinism.
Rotary is a global institution that consists of 35 000 plus clubs across the globe that work together to promote peace, education, fight against diseases and help grow local economies.
Minister Moyo was speaking last week at the Chitungwiza Citimed Hospital where the Rotary Club was inducting its new president for 2019-2020, Mrs Rose Elizabeth Peters.
“The Rotary Club is making a huge contribution to the health sector and we can see that from the projects that they have been running which are benefiting our sector quite a lot, especially on the issue of albinos they have been giving them out screen lotions,” he said.
Minister Moyo said other institutions should follow suit and learn to be transparent when conducting their programmes.
“They have made several camps at Chitungwiza hospital which were very effective and now they are planning on for March 2020,” he said.
“Institutions like the Rotary Club are very useful and have to be supported because they are very transparent in all their works.
“They account for every cent and we want other players to be of assistance to the sector, we do not want donors that only benefit themselves without looking if the community has really benefited.”
The club donated 200 medical textbooks worth US$10 000 and 200 bottles of lotions worth $13 000. After her induction, Mrs Peters promised to work hard and assist communities in Chitungwiza.
