Harare, Zimbabwe, 17 September 2024— At the ongoing 2024 Presidential Innovation Fair, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira, emphasised the critical role of education in propelling Zimbabwe towards its Vision 2030 goal of becoming an upper-middle-income economy.
In his address, Prof Murwira said a robust State is essential to provide for its citizens across all socio-economic sectors.
He underscored the importance of fostering a culture where local industries actively seek local solutions to meet their needs.
“We need a country where industry calls for local innovation,” he asserted, highlighting the necessity of cultivating a skilled workforce capable of unlocking job opportunities and alleviating poverty in Zimbabwe.

The Minister expressed optimism for a new generation of Zimbabweans poised to lead the nation towards prosperity.
He reiterated that the education system must serve as a catalyst for the country’s industrialisation and modernisation agenda.
Central to this vision is the thrust of the Second Republic to implement Heritage Based Education 5.0, which focuses on producing graduates equipped with the right knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for the production of goods and services that meet the needs of the populace.
The Presidential Innovation Fair serves as a vital platform for showcasing innovations that align with these educational goals, reinforcing the commitment to creating a thriving innovation ecosystem in Zimbabwe.
