ZIMBABWE has recorded a significant milestone on the regional stage following the appointment of Senator Monica Mutsvangwa as vice chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Ministers responsible for Gender.

Honourable Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, who is Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister, takes up the post at a time when the Second Republic was accelerating efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with national development priorities.

Her elevation is widely seen as a reflection of Zimbabwe’s growing stature in regional affairs, particularly in shaping policies that advance inclusive growth and social development.

Deputy Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Cde Kiven Mutimbanyoka, commended the appointment, describing it as a proud moment for the nation and a testament to the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“This distinction reflects not only Honourable Senator Monica Mutsvangwa’s exceptional leadership, but also Zimbabwe’s growing authority in shaping conversations and action around gender equality across the region under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said Deputy Minister Mutimbanyoka.

“It signals a shift from participation to influence, where our nation is actively helping to set the agenda and drive meaningful change in line with the President’s vision of an inclusive and prosperous upper middle-income society.”

He said the appointment affirms confidence in Zimbabwe’s policy direction and the Government’s commitment to empowering women and marginalised communities.

“I am honoured to serve under such visionary leadership at a time when Zimbabwe is stepping forward with clarity and conviction, guided by the transformative leadership of President Mnangagwa,” he said.

“This achievement opens new pathways for collaboration, innovation and impact, positioning our country as a catalyst for progress in advancing women’s empowerment across the COMESA region.”

He added that the development marks a defining moment in Zimbabwe’s developmental trajectory.

“It speaks to where we are going as a nation — forward, upward, and with unwavering intent, under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, to shape a more inclusive and empowered future for all,” he said.

Minister Mutsvangwa’s appointment is expected to enhance Zimbabwe’s role in regional integration processes, with gender equality and women’s empowerment remaining central to the country’s socio-economic transformation agenda.
