SCHOOLS should be ensuring that their broad curriculum includes science subjects to bolster Government’s Education 5.0 model, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Torerai Moyo has said.

Government’s Education 5.0 model aims to promote innovation and critical thinking in students.

Speaking at the 9th anniversary celebrations of Champion International College in Harare, Minister Moyo said education was not just about academic success but also shaping characters and fostering critical thinking to prepare students to be responsible global citizens.

He urged private schools to adopt a broad-based curriculum that catered for arts, commercials, sciences and information technology in line with the Education 5.0 policy.

Minister Moyo said this would assist the Government’s efforts to provide quality education to the nation.

He urged teachers to nurture students into responsible and productive citizens through fostering discipline and a zeal for learning.

Minister Moyo commended Champion College for producing exceptional academic results since it opened in 2015.

“Under the visionary of Dr Tendesai Mushamba, Champion International College has been a beacon of inspiration in the field of education and continues to set new standards in academic excellence.

“The college’s dedication to nurturing young minds and fostering a zeal for learning is truly commendable and as a Ministry, we are proud to be associated with such excellence,” said Minister Moyo.

Dr Mushamba pledged to continue complementing the Government’s efforts to provide quality education to students.

“As private independent colleges in Zimbabwe, we have played a crucial role in supplementing the efforts of public schools and addressing the shortage of educational opportunities in the country.

“We have also embraced Education 5.0 to prepare our students for the future, fostering innovation and creativity among students, preparing them to be problem-solvers and critical thinkers.

“We have helped to increase access to education, provide diverse learning options, offer personalised attention to students, promote innovation in teaching, and align educational programmes with industry needs,” said Dr Mushamba.

The function was attended by business leaders and public officials including prominent entrepreneur Mr Phillip Chiyangwa and Harare mayor Jacob Mafume.
