THE Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Zhemu Soda, and his Deputy, Dr Omphile Marupi, on Wednesday made an impromptu visit to the Chronicle newsroom.

The brief stopover was part of a wider familiarisation tour of media institutions, with the delegation accompanied by the Ministry permanent secretary Nick Mangwana, Zimpapers Chief Executive Officer, Mr William Chikoto, alongside other senior managers.

Minister Soda said the visit was a preliminary engagement, with plans already in motion for a more comprehensive interaction with newsroom staff.

“We will be back for another proper visit when everyone is here, as we know that it’s a busy week with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair upon us. We just felt we should be here since we have been to The Herald, Manica Post and Montrose Studios. Like I said, we shall arrange a proper visit to meet everyone,” he said.

During the visit, Mr Chikoto briefed the Minister on the company’s infrastructure, noting that the Chronicle complex houses Sunday News, Umthunywa, B-Metro and ZTN operations.

He added that the media group also owns the Typocrafters building located in the Belmont industrial area, underscoring the scale of its operations in Bulawayo.
