Minister to grace schools debate final

THE Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Paul Mavima will this Saturday be the guest of honour at the CBZ Schools Debate Championship in Bulawayo where he will hand over a $50 000 sponsorship for the competition.

The competition being bankrolled by financial services group CBZ Holdings will be held at the Rainbow Hotel.

In a statement, national coordinator for the schools debate, Isheanesu Sibanda, said the debate helps to mould future leaders while bringing vibrancy to the education sector.

“The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Paul Mavima will hand over the prize money as the guest of honour at the finals in Bulawayo.

“The CBZ Schools Debate is aimed at developing critical thinking, reading and research as well as active listening amongst many other benefits. Debate provides experiences that will raise cognitive and presentation skills and the debaters will learn and polish up their skills as they progress through the competition,” he said.

He said more than 1 000 schools participated and were drawn from the country’s 10 provinces.

The CBZ Schools Debate provincial competitions closed last week Saturday to pave way for the finals where primary schools from the country’s 10 provinces will battle for supremacy at the national finals set for September 22,” said Sibanda.

The CBZ Schools Debate Championship is a national programme for primary schools in partnership with Institute of African Knowledge and National Association of Primary Heads and will feature schools from the country’s 10 provinces.
