TWO legislators from Chimanimani, Cdes Samuel Undenge and Monica Mutsvangwa have donated 2 000 litres of diesel towards the rehabilitation of the Cashel-Chimanimani Road.
The two made the donation during the burial of the late Chief Chikukwa in Chimanimani last Saturday.
First to announce his donation was the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dr Samuel Undenge and Deputy Minister of Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa also chipped in with the same quantity.
Addressing the mourners, Dr Undenge who is also National Assembly member for Chimanimani East, said construction work on the road would start soon.
“Your plight was presented to the National Assembly and as we speak, the District Development Fund has availed graders to work on the road. What is left is for their manpower to move to the ground and start work.
“What we need is for the road to be resuscitated as it gives villagers here easy access to the nearest hospital which is Mutambara Mission Hospital,” he said.
This was after the late Chief Chikukwa’s younger brother, Mr Eliah Chikukwa, had highlighted their plight to senior Government officials present at the funeral.
Mr Chikukwa said their main challenge in the area was poor road network as they had to travel for more than 100km to reach Mutambara Mission Hospital, yet the hospital was just 30km away using the Cashel-Chimanimani Road.
Said Mr Chikukwa; “We want to thank ZINARA for grading our other roads, but I think it is high time that the Cashel-Chimanimani Road is rehabilitated.
“It has become a norm for people to die on their way to Mutambara Mission Hospital because it is a longer route to get there using the main road that we are currently using.
“Our wish is for Government to intervene. We are not grappling with a poor road network alone, but electricity availability. Since our own Member of the National Assembly is also the Minister of Energy and Power Development, we pray that he will act on the issue.”
Dr Undenge said it was also his wish as the responsible authority to ensure that every household in the rural community was electrified.
