ALL is set for the Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa (MIDSA) Ministerial Committee meeting as Ministers Kazembe Kazembe, Evelyn Ndlovu, and Edgar Moyo convene for the climax of the dialogue.

The ministers’ arrival follows a intensive three-day technical programme where senior officials from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region forged key recommendations on critical migration issues.

This technical groundwork, which concluded on Sunday, focused on themes including mobility in the context of climate change, labour migration, and strengthening data mechanisms for evidence-based migration governance.

The high-level ministerial programme today will be officially opened by the Guest of Honour, the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Honourable Kazembe Kazembe.

The opening ceremony here in Victoria Falls will also feature remarks from the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Richard Moyo represented by Director Local Government Mr Tapera Mugoriya and the Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu.

A pivotal session of the day will be chaired by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Edgar Moyo.

During this plenary, ministers will consider and endorse the outcomes and recommendations presented from the technical meetings.

The key issues for endorsement include formulating a regional framework for skills recognition, managing climate-induced mobility, facilitating the movement of persons, and bolstering data systems for migration management across SADC.

The official closing ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon and is expected to feature significant launches, including Zimbabwe’s new Migration Data Policy and an Environment Toolkit, underscoring the country’s commitment to leading on regional migration governance.

Being held under the theme: Promoting Regional Integration Through Sustaining Safe, Regular and Orderly Migration, the MIDSA 2025 conference represents a critical step towards harmonising migration policies and addressing shared challenges in Southern Africa, with Zimbabwe playing a central host and champion role.
