THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on Monday carried out an Early Warning System (EWS) training at Nkankezi Secondary School in Insiza District as part of its many initiatives to reduce school dropouts across the province.
In a public notice, the ministry said among the participants were stakeholders drawn from five schools.
These include; Junior Parliamentarians, traditional leaders, peer educators and councillors.
“The training emphasises the three pillars of the Early Warning System: Readmit- Supporting students who have dropped out to return to school, Retain- Keeping students engaged and motivated to stay in school and Reduce- Identifying and addressing factors contributing to dropout rates,” said the ministry.
“The training also explores safeguarding concepts, ensuring that schools provide a safe and protective environment for all learners.”
The Early Warning System (EWS) is a proactive approach to identifying and addressing risks that could lead to school dropouts.
It focuses on preventing school dropouts and supporting readmissions by recognising red flags like absenteeism, declining academic performance, and changes in behavior.
The EWS aims to create a safer school environment and ensure that students receive necessary support to stay in school.
In addition, the system uses red flags or early warning signs to identify students at risk of dropping out, such as absenteeism, declining academic performance, or changes in behavior.
