Ministry of Truth: Who the hell is G40?

Ministry of Truth with Cde Jason Zhuwao

Is it a new religion? Is it a modern day Ares or perhaps we are witnessing the resurrection of the Mongol Warriors? All the talk of the G40 got me thinking Zimbabwe had produced its own version of the Fantastic Four!

Article after article has built this G40 up to be an unstoppable force with the power to effect a new world order. Having consumed my fair share of animations as a child, my imagination went wild as I pictured these four action figures out to destroy life as we know it!
Unfortunately, the longer I played the scenes in my head the more I realised my plot lacked substance, my entire cast was not convincing and the whole script was flimsy.
Since the bulk of you have intensely followed this G40 plot throughout the year, the Ministry of Truth will take it upon itself to issue a “spoiler alert” and ease your suspense.
Ladies and gentlemen, it turns out that there is no such thing as the G40. Don’t shoot the messenger.
This G40 is a ghost that never lived. A mere figment of the imaginations of journalists who like me, probably watched too much television in their childhood.
If the 2015 mandate of the opposition media was to improve on the creativity of the writers and build castles in the air for the opposition parties, then let us applaud them for a job well done! There have surely been some entertaining pieces slapped on the front pages of these near tabloid publications.
The G40 is certainly a result of the tales. Described as “a network of ambitious mavericks”, this creation was devised to bring division and fan factionalism within the ruling party.
The situation of the former Vice President Joice Mujuru roused the country’s detractors. It delivered a hope that their arch-nemesis – Zanu PF – could be brought down once and for all.
Failing to recognise the insignificance of the exit of the rogue leader from the party, they invested all their time and resources in magnifying the issue of factionalism within Zanu PF. However, the Mujuru cabal represented a minute fraction of the front, with the remaining cadres focused on the agenda of economic empowerment through unified efforts.
It is for this reason that factionalism has now received a zero tolerance attitude from the Zanu PF leadership. These men and women are well aware of the ‘divide and conquer’ tactics of the enemy. Factionalism is a sure face of this tactic.
By definition, factionalism is described as “conflict within an organization or nation, internal dissension”. Where is the conflict within Zanu PF? Where can one find dissension? Unlike the MDCs that disagreed and experienced discord, resulting in their split; Zanu PF remains a sturdy party. In fact, Zanu PF is experiencing some of its greatest policy successes during this period when it is alleged to be falling apart.
From the Look East Policy to LEAF and Build Zimbabwe, the ruling party has inspired economic reform over the past years. It is refining and progressing itself. Contrary to forming factions, the different wings of the party are being synthesised to cohesively work together.
The Youth and Women’s League are being encouraged to actively contribute to innovative policy creation.
The stern stance taken by her Excellency, Amai Mugabe during a recent rally when a chant denouncing the G40 was uttered should come as no surprise then.
The First Lady stopped proceedings to have the party member explain just who or what this G40 was. We cannot allow the media and opposition parties to dictate our speech and change our agenda. The G40 is and should remain a non entity to the ruling party.
Sure enough, it has not earned the right to deserve space at our rallies. We chant against MDC, against Tsvangirai, and against sanctions; we do not chant against imaginary beings regardless of how antagonistic they have been said to be. Otherwise, I might have to include Gagamel and Lex Luther in the list of persons I pray for protection from.
The Ministry of Truth recognises the Youth League’s stance on endorsing “one centre of power” in President Robert Mugabe. The Women’s League and the party’s Main Body have also supported this notion.
Zanu PF does not have a record of contradicting itself, it endorsed the President as its sole candidate and this will remain the status quo.
Whether it is G40 or alleged battles against the war vets, Zanu PF will not entertain any ideas of factionalism within its walls.
This is not a house of cards brought to collapse by the slightest disturbance. Zanu PF is a house built on stone.
“And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” (Matthew 7:25)
