THE Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, headed by Dr Jenfan Muswere, will next week hold a SADC Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Summit (SASS) in Mutoko, Mashonaland East Province.
The two-day Summit, which will run on October 24 and October 25, will be headlined by an Anti-Sanctions Media Indaba and Business Expo.
In 2019, SADC Heads of State and Government set aside October 25 as Anti-Sanctions Day to protest the imposition of illegal sanctions by the United States and its Western allies that include Britain and the European Union.
This year’s Anti-Sanctions Day will be held under the theme ‘Harnessing the Youth for Accelerated Socio-Economic Development in the Fight Against Sanctions’ AS Government takes on board young people in the fight against the illegal economic sanctions.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry extended an invitation to all Ministries, Government departments, agencies as well as the business fraternity to attend the two-day summit, which is being held in Mutoko in line with President Mnangagwa’s thrust of leaving no one and no place behind.
The Ministry said the summit would also provide an opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its resolve in the face of adversity wrought by the illegal sanctions.
President Mnangagwa is on record denouncing the punitive measures and also charging the nation to continue demonstrating its resilience through innovation.
“The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services invites all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies together with the business community to the Second Edition of the SADC Anti-Sanctions Solidarity Summit (SASS) 2023 to be held in Mutoko, Mashonaland East from 24 to 25 October 2023.
“SASS 2023 will be headlined by; Anti-Sanctions Media Indaba and Business Expo. Through this summit, the Ministry intends to showcase Government and private sectors’ anti-sanctions resilience and resistance.
“Be part of the call for the unconditional removal of the illegal sanctions. Be part of the winning patriots. Be part of SASS 2023.”
On the day President Mnangagwa will lead the Anti-Sanctions Day commemorations that will be accompanied by solidarity marches, speeches and musical shows next Wednesday.
“His Excellency the President will deliver a televised keynote address to mark the Anti-Sanctions Day. The address will be distributed on all social media platforms, targeting the youth to enhance awareness of the negative impact of sanctions.
“There will also be short and brief anti-sanctions marches within school premises and around work stations for Government workers. An Anti-Sanctions Musical Show will also be held,” said Minister Muswere while apprising the nation last week.
As Zimbabwe calls for the removal of the illegal sanctions, President Mnangagwa continues to rally the nation behind continued development despite the punitive measures.
“We must remain Zimbabwean and African in our thoughts and deeds. This is a key ingredient for economic growth, modernisation, industrialisation and overall global competitiveness. Through research and innovation efforts, Zimbabwe must realise industrialisation in Tsholotsho, Binga, Muzarabani, Chipinge, Kanyemba, among other areas,” said the President while addressing delegates at the National Research, Science, Technology and Innovation Conference in Harare last Tuesday.
