NEWLY launched Bulawayo Jazz and Heritage Company in partnership with the office of the minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province and the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, will this year launch the inaugural annual Bulawayo International Jazz Invitational. The event, which will be held during the 57th edition of the ZITF at the Bulawayo Country Club, is intended to entertain business personnel attending the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

In an interview Bulawayo Jazz and Heritage Company creative director Mmillili Tapela said the event aimed at bringing together the private and public sector incorporating investors, business owners, entrepreneurs and deal makers during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.

“Billed to be Bulawayo’s most prestigious premier business and social networking event, the 2016 Bulawayo International Jazz Invitational to be held on Thursday, the 28th of April offers a celebration of Jazz and a premier lifestyle networking site for business-minded people, featuring 80 percent jazz and 20 percent sub-genres of jazz.

“This spontaneous, momentous scene — meeting of jazz and business — will stand for decades as a stirring symbol of the authenticity of the celebration that is destined to become a cultural force under the guardianship of the Bulawayo Metropolitan Provincial government. The Jazz Invitational is a culmination of discussions and efforts by various stakeholders who want to create an event worthy of the city’s legacy,” he said.

This year’s event will feature Bulawayo’s legendary internationally celebrated jazz artistes — Dorothy Masuku, who will be awarded with a lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the jazz industry in Bulawayo and beyond.

The event will also feature South African jazz legends — Mara Louw and Abigail Kubeka, Zimbabwe’s Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Bulawayo Kwela, dub poet and musician Albert Nyathi and Jeys Marabini.
