The ministry gave the companies 30 days to re-submit their applications.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development urged the 469 firms to provide more information in relation to their applications.
“It is hereby notified that the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in terms of the Mines and Minerals Act invites the EPO applicants to re-submit their applications for consideration, their proposed work programmes and proof of funding and technical capacity to carry out exploration in the areas applied for.
“All companies should be accompanied by full details of directors and shareholders of the company,” reads the statement in part.
The notice for re-submission of applications is to ensure that only those organisations that are serious in venturing into mining will be given the licences. Government has been moving to purge individuals or organisations that hold claims for speculative purposes and last year introduced the Use It or Lose It Policy.
Recently, Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu, said a number of mining claims were being surrendered to the ministry. Over the past few months, we have seen a number of claims being surrendered to the ministry following the adoption of the policy as well as the implementation of the Use It or Lose It Policy,” he said.
Government has also gazetted new fees as part of measures to discourage people from holding on to licences they do not intend to use.
