VICE-President General (retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, Colonel Miniyothabo “Minnie” Baloyi-Chiwenga, has launched the Wellness Plus Movement, a wellness initiative aimed at encouraging Zimbabweans to embrace healthier and more balanced lifestyles.
The initiative was launched as Baloyi-Chiwenga celebrated her 50th birthday, with the programme placing emphasis on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
The first programme under the movement is a three-month weight-loss challenge designed to encourage participants to take a more deliberate approach to their health through regular exercise and healthy eating.
A US$10 000 prize pool has been set aside for the challenge, with the winner set to receive US$5 000, while the second and third-placed participants will pocket US$3 000 and US$2 000 respectively.
However, Baloyi-Chiwenga has stressed that the initiative goes beyond weight loss, positioning it as a platform for promoting healthier lifestyles and encouraging people to make wellness part of their everyday lives.
The initiative has already attracted support from the arts fraternity, with Bulawayo-based veteran musician Sandra Ndebele becoming one of its participants.
Ndebele has joined the three-month Wellness Plus challenge, saying the programme had encouraged her to become more intentional about her health while also inspiring others to prioritise their wellbeing.
“I’m officially entering the Wellness Plus 3-Month Weight Loss Challenge! The Wellness Plus Movement is about much more than losing weight. It is about embracing a healthier and more balanced lifestyle physically, emotionally and mentally while inspiring others to do the same,” said Ndebele.
