Is it just a coincidence it’s called PSALM 91?
AMID the devastation, which left more than 500 people dead and entire villages being wiped out by the fury of Cyclone Freddy in Malawi, one little shop remained standing.
Some are now calling it the Miracle Shop.
Its owners will probably argue that it’s a testimony of the power of their beliefs and it’s hard to argue otherwise given the name they gave to their shop.
The family shop is in the Thyolo district, and it is virtually the only one to remain standing after the destruction the cyclone caused.
“I thank God. I know there is nothing left in the shop. But at least my shop is still standing, and I will start (again) from there,” the owner of the shop told AllAfrica.
Maybe, it’s because of the name.
It’s called MASALIMO 91 which, when translated into English, means PSALM 91.
And what does PSALM 91 tell us?
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’
“Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge, His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
“You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
“A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
“You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, ‘The Lord is my refuge, and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, NO DISASTER WILL COME NEAR YOUR TENT.
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways, they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
“You will tread on the lion and the cobra, you will trample the great lion and the serpent. ‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him, I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.”
Cyclone Freddy returned to south-eastern Africa for a second time in less than three weeks.
It has claimed more than 500 lives in Malawi and many others in Mozambique and Madagascar.
In the southern region of Malawi, a village was wiped out and buried in the sand.
Zimbabwe is one of the countries which are providing assistance to Malawi as the country battles with the tragedy and destruction brought by the cyclone.
On Wednesday, President Chakwera declared two weeks of national mourning for the people killed by Cyclone Freddy.
This week the country has gone into their second week of mourning.
“In view of the extent of the loss of life caused by this disaster, I have directed that all of us as a nation observe 14 days of mourning and that all flags fly at half-mast for the first seven of those days,” President Chakwera said. – H-Metro Reporter/The South African.
