HOW MINE coach Luke Masomere has lamented his side’s shortcomings upfront saying he had done all he could for goals to come to no avail. Masomere’s strikers have struggled to find the net with only attacking midfielder Timothy January notching six goals in 20 games. January scored four of those goals in their 6-0 thrashing of Whawha.
Chief strikers Kudakwashe Musharu and Godfrey Nguwodzawo have only managed three goals between them.
Despite the side having some of the most expensively assembled forwards, How Mine have struggled to score, especially in the second half of the season, and that has seen them dropping from third to sixth position on the league table.
“We’ve been struggling for goals this season and I don’t know what else to do because I’ve done everything that I thought was a solution, but it’s just not giving us the desired results,” said Masomere.
“What’s also a worrying issue is that my main strikers haven’t even scored five goals and the season is about to end. I’ve been changing combinations hoping that I might finally get the answer but it’s not happening,” he said.
Since the departure of Limited Chikafa for ZPC Kariba and Charles Sibanda’s long layoff through injury, Masomere has struggled to find the right partnership upfront. He has interchangeably used Benjamin Marere and Wonder Sithole as wingers, but that has not solved the goal drought.
All the forwards have not scored in their side’s last three outings, with midfielder Mernard Mupera scoring the solitary goal in their 1-5 demolition by city rivals Highlanders.
Defender Morris Kadzola also saved the day for the gold miners, scoring the equaliser against ZPC Kariba in their 1-1 tie. The forwards again fired blanks in the 0-0 stalemate against Triangle last Sunday.
“I know that people have been asking why I wasn’t introducing young blood as the old guys have failed me. All I can say is that I’ve gambled with everything in my team and there has been no joy. I’ve even tried to introduce Nguwodzawo, but he’s just too slow for the game of today,” Masomere said.
