“There are quite a number of people who are not happy with the manner the secretary general is handling party affairs. She is showing complete disregard of party procedures and openly showing support for the Matabeleland regions at the expense of other provinces,” the sources who declined to be named said.
Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga heads the party’s secretariat and is alleged to be close to the party’s leadership from Matabeleland where her mother hails.
The sources said some of the issues that were of concern to them include the composition of the youths delegation seconded to Jomic’s recent tour of Kenya.
Another Jomic member and Mashonaland Central chairman Henry Chimbiri was also re-deployed from his post to deputise Qhubani Moyo at the party’s department of Policy and Research.
“As an elected official only the provincial assembly has the power to remove him from his post not any other official. That new post is mostly ceremonial and of no use at all,’ the sources said.
Chimbiri is reportedly resisting the transfer saying it was done without following due process.
He could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Some of the disgruntled members are said to have convened a meeting on Sunday to map the way forward including a no confidence vote in Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga’s leadership although it was later cancelled due to unspecified reasons.
A party official who declined to be identified said disgruntled party members had crafted a letter of complaint, which they want to present to party leader Prof Ncube.
Efforts to get a comment from Mrs Misihairabwi-Mushonga were unsuccessful yesterday with reports that she is out of the country on Government business.
However, the party’s deputy spokesperson Mr Kurauone Chihwayi professed ignorance of any disgruntlement within the party.
“There is nothing like that but if there is anything those people know how to air their grievances if they have anything against the party’s secretary general.
“If they are genuine members of the party then they should have approached the national chairman (Mr Goodwill Chimbaira) and if the issue remains unresolved approach deputy president Mr Edwin Mushoriwa and then the president (Welshman Ncube),” he said.
