The inaugural Miss Bikini Body that was held over the weekend at Harare International Conference Centre’s swimming pool area turned out to be a flop with the show attracting a paltry crowd while only nine out of the billed 20 contestants took part. Bridgette Pisirai (24) was crowned queen while Marilyn Munemo (24) and Natasha Basopa (22) were the first and second princesses respectively in the pageant.

The organiser, Tapfumaneyi “Coco” Munenge said despite the turn of events, they were pleased with the outcome.

“The pageant was quite impressive despite the poor turnout. We were trying something different. The management at Rainbow Towers loved the concept and feel we should do it seasonally,” he said

He said some of the models had failed to turn up at the pageant because of commitments at the Miss Zimbabwe boot camp that was taking place on the same day.

The contestants walked the ramp in categories such as the free style, the themed personality showcase and neon colour code for night wear.

Coco said his team had done their best to curb the societal misconception on bikini pageants and nudity by covering up as much as possible.

“A bikini body is a sexy sculptured body. An example is that of Kim Kadarshian.  The judges were looking for personality also and crowd influence,” said Coco who is the lead designer at this year’s Harare International Festival of Arts.

Coco choreographed the pageant while Nompumelelo Samambgwa designed all the swimwear that the models used.

Through her brand name “Noe Es”, Samabgwa also awarded the three winners the swim suits they wore during the pageant.
